Triple glazing configurations achieve lower U-values, which measure the rate of heat transfer through the window unit and directly affect the energy performance rating of the building.

Roof windows are frequently specified during attic conversion projects, where previously unused roof space is transformed into habitable rooms such as bedrooms, home offices, or bathrooms. Dutch building regulations require habitable rooms to meet minimum standards for natural daylight and ventilation, and roof windows provide both functions in spaces where vertical wall-mounted windows are not structurally possible.
