Rallying for a Cure: Youth Squash Event Raises $160,000 for MSK Kids Pediatric Cancer Research

On September 26, 2026, the MSquash SONO Campus transformed into a vibrant center for community spirit and resilience as over 170 young athletes participated in the bi-annual Squash Out Cancer fundraiser. This grassroots movement, driven by Founders Katline Cauwels and Shaun Moxham, aims to turn competitive drive into hope for children fighting cancer.

Fundraising Success

The event successfully raised $160,000 for MSK Kids, the pediatric cancer program at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Savannah Moxham, top-ranked U.S. player in the GU19 division, captured the excitement: “It’s amazing to see everyone come together for such an important cause, and exchange the drive for performance into an effort to unite.”

Teams and Participation

26 teams made up of six players each, showcased their skills while representing independent, private, and public schools from Connecticut, New York, and Pennsylvania. Private schools included Greenwich Country Day School, Brunswick, Greens Farms Academy, Greenwich Academy, St Luke’s School, Hopkins, Rye Country Day School, Horace Mann and Hackley, as well as public schools Bronxville, Greenwich, Darien, and Westport.

Funding Important Research for Car-T cells for Immunotherapy

Co-Founder Katline Cauwels mentioned: “Knowing that a difference is being made in the lives of kids with cancer in the future makes everything worth it. The percentage to overcome cancer for children and young adults increases every year, however the research is still underfunded. Utilizing squash as a vehicle to make a difference is inspiring.”

A Unified Effort

The intensity on the court served a purpose far beyond athletic glory. Young squash players from across the region gathered in Connecticut to rally for a cure, united in their efforts to support critical pediatric cancer research. Co-organizer Reine Honts emphasized the commitment: “Every point played is a step toward hope for those battling cancer.” Together, participants made a powerful impact. SquashOutCancer is a bi-annual event with all funds directly going to Memorial Sloan Kettering, MSK KIDS department. The next edition will take place on September 30, 2028. Organizers expressed deep gratitude to all families and supporters who joined the powerful campaign for HOPE.

Star Power & World-Class Support

The fundraiser received incredible support from world squash stars, including World #1 Amina Orfi, Victor Crouin, Jonah Bryant, Laura Massaro, Eain Yow Ng, and Timmy Brownell. These top athletes brought international prominence to the event by donating signed Dunlop rackets and accessories, books, and offering free private video lessons for participants.
