SHERATON WAIKIKI BEACH RESORT OPENS HINAHINA ON THE BEACH, ITS NEW OCEANFRONT DINING DESTINATION; A LA CARTE AND BUFFET DINNER RETURNING OCT. 20, NOV. 6

PR Newswire

HONOLULU, Oct. 20, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Sheraton Waikiki Beach Resort has opened Hinahina on the Beach, its new premier all-day oceanfront restaurant, welcoming visitors and residents to a vibrant gathering place for breakfast, lunch and dinner overlooking historic Gray’s Beach and other famous Waikiki surf breaks. Celebrating the area’s renowned waterman heritage, Hinahina offers a menu of coastally inspired cuisine and beach-influenced cocktails, marking the return of breakfast and dinner buffets after more than six years. Hinahina at Sheraton Waikiki replaces Kai Market and The Edge of Waikiki Bar, reimagining the two oceanfront spaces as a singular dining destination.

Hinahina on the Beach

“Hinahina opens an exciting new culinary chapter for Sheraton Waikiki Beach Resort and the story of this much-loved stretch of Waikiki’s shoreline,” said Tetsuji “Tets” Yamazaki, the resort’s general manager. “Since imagining this exciting new concept, we’ve been anxious to begin welcoming residents and visitors to this gathering and dining space shaped by the history, surfing, waterman and beachboy life, and coastal culture of Gray’s Beach. Bringing back our beloved resort tradition of offering a daily breakfast buffet is also special to us as guests have told us time and again how much they’ve missed it during their stays.”

Conceived to comfortably welcome families, groups and friendly gatherings, Hinahina’s interior features large tables, flexible seating and a private dining room called the Shapers Room that can accommodate up to 40 people with views of Waikiki Beach. Private, semi-private and full-restaurant buyout options can also be made for groups of 25 to 250 guests.

Hinahina’s culinary program is led by Executive Chef Darren Demaya, who was promoted from his previous role as the resort’s executive sous chef. Born and raised on Hawaii Island, Demaya began his culinary career as a dishwasher in Hilo before joining the kitchen team of Alan Wong’s Restaurant in Honolulu. With more than 18 years at Sheraton Waikiki Beach Resort, he has held leadership roles in the property’s restaurants, bars, banquets and daily dining operations.

Breakfast selections at the buffet include Pineapple Upside-Down Pancakes, a rotating selection of salads, eggs benedict and fried rice, as well as fresh-cut fruits, breakfast meats, pastries and an omelet station. Among the restaurant’s lunchtime offerings are Build-Your-Own Poke Bowls with local-caught ahi or wild-caught Atlantic salmon; among other selections are the Hinahina Burger with wagyu beef, the Loco Moco, and Gray’s Beach fish tacos. Hinahina’s dinner menu will debut flavorful dishes created for sharing, including Giant Tiger Shrimp with Red Thai Lobster Curry Sauce. Dessert fans can enjoy the nostalgic deliciousness of Auntie Karen’s Strawberry Jello Cheesecake Pie.

Hinahina’s name honors the history of Waikiki’s Gray’s Beach area and Gray’s by the Sea, an early 1900s boarding house that welcomed travelers from around the world to the shoreline. In olelo Hawaii (Hawaiian language), Hinahina means “gray” as well as describes the silvery tones of native shoreline plants whose fine white hairs reflect light, creating a luminous gray-green appearance. It’s a name connecting the shoreline area’s colorful history with the timeless natural beauty of the Hawaiian Islands.

Hinahina at Sheraton Waikiki Beach Resort is open daily, serving its breakfast buffet from 6:30 to 10:30 a.m. and lunch from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dinner service is offered from 5 to 8:00 p.m., with reservations available. For more information, visit www.hinahinawaikiki.com or follow @hinahinawaikiki.
