Masttro, the global operating system for complex wealth, today announced Cash Projection Hub, a forecasting engine for closed-end funds and the portfolios they sit inside. The module projects capital calls, distributions, net asset value (NAV), unfunded commitments, and allocation drift, all driven by client-managed assumptions, inside the same platform that already holds the underlying data. Cash Projection Hub is available today directly within the Masttro platform.
Closed-end funds do not behave like the rest of the portfolio. Capital is called on the general partner’s schedule, distributions arrive years later, and NAV is a lagging estimate. Most teams forecast these flows in a spreadsheet that grows more fragile with every added fund, vintage, and entity. Masttro explores these challenges in-depth in a recent blog article.
That fragility is colliding with a structural shift. Alternatives made up 42% of family office portfolios in 2025, up from 39% the previous year, according to BlackRock’s Global Family Office Survey. The UBS Global Family Office Report 2026 found that 60% of family offices plan changes to their strategic asset allocation in the next 12 months, the highest-level UBS has recorded. Closed-end positions cannot be traded out of; they are repositioned through commitment pacing, so every allocation change that touches them creates a forecasting need. Meanwhile, Allianz Research reports that capital calls continue to exceed distributions amid a persistent exit backlog, extending holding periods. More alternatives, more repositioning, and slower distributions mean liquidity planning now depends on forecasts most teams still run by hand.
“Anyone managing meaningful closed-end fund exposure deals will have the same four questions: how much capital will be called, when will it be called, when does the money come back, and what does that mean for liquidity if markets turn,” said Domingo Viesca, Co-founder and Head of Innovation at Masttro. “Today, those questions are usually answered by a spreadsheet that one person built and is responsible for maintaining. Cash Projection Hub replaces that brittle process with a governed forecasting engine inside the platform that already holds the data, so every fund, entity, and family in the book is forecast with the same rigor.”
A forecast that holds up under scrutiny
Cash Projection Hub extends the Yale Model, the standard framework for projecting private fund cash flows, adding intra-year cash flow timing and current-year activity at the moment a projection is run. Key controls were built directly from input by Masttro clients managing institutional alternatives portfolios.
With Cash Projection Hub, teams can:
- See every fund in one live dashboard. NAV, capital calls, distributions, unfunded commitments, and projected allocation across every closed-end fund.
- Control the assumptions. Set fund life, contribution rate, growth rate, and yield at the security type, strategy, vintage, or individual fund level. Overrides flow down cleanly.
- Serve every family from one model. Apply different assumptions to the same fund across different clients. No more one-spreadsheet-per-client.
- Catch allocation drift early. Projected allocation is compared against target, surfacing future overweights while there is still time to adjust commitment pacing.
- Keep liquidity in context. Show unfunded commitments as a percentage of a client-defined reference portfolio, such as cash plus fixed income.
- Check the model against reality. View historical and projected figures in a single timeline to sanity-check projections against actual fund behavior.
Forward looking, by design
Cash Projection Hub works alongside the historical reporting in a client’s existing Masttro environment. Projections are model-based estimates, not guarantees; capital call timing ultimately depends on general partner decisions that no model can predict. The module’s job is rigor and consistency across the entire book.
