Award-winning author Molly Hammond invites readers back into the magical world of Edira with Queen of Starlight, the second installment in the Starlight Series and the sequel to the multi-award-winning YA fantasy Daughter of Starlight.
“The stars gave her power. The darkness will give her a crown.”
A year after defeating an evil wizard army, the elves of Edira are finally prospering. But Luma, the Daughter of Starlight, cannot shake the feeling that something is wrong. Shadows move where light should reign, ominous whispers invade her thoughts, and the peace she fought so hard to protect begins to fracture.
When a vicious darkness launches attacks across Edira, Luma discovers that her world is not the only one in danger. Malicath, home of the wizards and once Edira’s enemy, is being consumed by the same mysterious force. Even more alarming, the darkness drains and corrupts magic itself, including Luma’s powerful starlight.
With both worlds facing destruction, elves and wizards must set aside generations of mistrust and form an uneasy alliance. Their only hope may lie in the Unseen Star, an ancient magical relic believed to have the power to restore balance.
The search draws Luma and her companions through dangerous landscapes, hidden archives, dragon sanctuaries, and the mysterious Dark Forest between worlds. But as the darkness strengthens, Luma discovers that saving Edira and Malicath will require more than defeating another enemy. She must confront grief, fear, love, the legacy of her mother’s dark magic, and a truth she never expected: light alone may not be enough.
Literary Titan praised Queen of Starlight as an “energetic fantasy adventure” filled with magical worlds, ancient riddles, dragons, political reconciliation, and romance. The review highlights Hammond’s lively ensemble of characters and the warmth created through their humor, friendships, disagreements, and growing trust.
At the center of the novel is Luma’s evolution from powerful hero to emerging queen. Her journey challenges her understanding of strength as she learns that darkness and light are not always opposites and that true power may come from holding both in balance.
Literary Titan also noted the novel’s appeal for readers who enjoy powerful heroines, loyal and bantering found families, romance, and large-scale magical conflict. Hammond brings those elements together with accessible world-building, fairy-tale warmth, humor, adventure, and an emotional story about reconciliation and sacrifice.
As old enemies become allies and friendships are tested by increasingly dangerous choices, Queen of Starlight expands the world introduced in Daughter of Starlight while deepening its themes of courage, loyalty, forgiveness, and identity.
Ultimately, Luma’s greatest battle may not be against the darkness threatening her world, but against everything she believes about the power she was born to wield.
Discover a YA fantasy filled with magic, dragons, romance, found family, unlikely alliances, and a heroine whose path to the crown will require her to embrace powers far greater, and darker, than she ever imagined.
